Her Story
Every Legend Has A Beginning
The Dark Huntress began life in Huntsville, Alabama.
On the 14 December 1966, she was purchased brand new from Hill Chevrolet by Edgar “Ed” Gamble for $4,548.60.
She wasn’t bought simply as a car.
She was a surprise Christmas gift for Ed’s beloved wife, Sara—Ed wrapped her in a giant red bow, ready for Christmas morning, and created a famil

On the 14 December 1966, she was purchased brand new from Hill Chevrolet by Edgar “Ed” Gamble for $4,548.60.
She wasn’t bought simply as a car.
She was a surprise Christmas gift for Ed’s beloved wife, Sara—Ed wrapped her in a giant red bow, ready for Christmas morning, and created a family memory that would last a lifetime.
Decades later, Eds family were amazed to discover that Sara’s treasured Impala was still alive and continuing her journey on the other side of the Atlantic.
Ed, a decorated Normandy veteran, served with the 9th Air Force, 819th Aviation Engineers during the Second World War. In 2015, Ed received a letter from France. His original military dog tags, lost on Normandy Beach during the war, had been discovered, and were returned to him almost seventy years later—a remarkable reminder that even history has a way of finding its way home.
A lifelong car enthusiast, Ed loved motorsport, attended NASCAR races and later became renowned for restoring damaged vehicles to their former glory.
Following Sara’s passing in 1975, Ed kept the Impala as a cherished reminder of her, preserving and caring for her over the years.
Ed later entrusted the Impala, to family friend John L. Kirby, who continued to care for her. A true peoples person, John was known for his warmth, generosity and love of classic cars.
Whether serving in the Army, working in Insurance or running his own automobile dealership, John built lifelong friendships wherever he went.
From Johns care, the Impala passed to Charlie Van Valkenburgh, founder of Pitbull Products Inc;
Charlie sympathetically restored her whilst preserving her originality that made her so special.
Then came her greatest adventure…
In 2019, she left Alabama for the first time, crossing the Atlantic with Golden Chariots Imports Ltd before arriving in the UK at Southampton in March 2019.
It was here, in the United Kingdom, that she began the next chapter of her extraordinary journey. Alongside her new custodian, she was reborn as..
